In 2002, twelve believers gathered in a home to discuss what God was calling them to do. They knew it was something new and different for the Townsend area.
After lengthy discussion, it became obvious that God was calling this group to be a new church, one called specifically to reach the lost and those hurt by church and/or religion in the Tuckaleechee Cove area -- reaching from Walland to Wears Valley.
The group met in the home of a member for several months until the church outgrew it. The gatherings moved to the conference center at a local hotel until March of 2003 when they began meeting in the Townsend Elementary School.
In 2004, property was purchased and the decision to build was made. Groundbreaking in August and the first service held in the new building was March 6, 2005.
An outreach to the community, Pantry 1*5*3 was started in 2009, offering food assistance once a month. Budget and general counseling has been a large part of this ministry as well.
Since then, Church of the Cove has participated in disaster relief trips to Folsom, Louisiana and Pascagoula after Hurricane Katrina, Baton Rouge after Hurricane Ivan, Cullman, Alabama after tornadoes struck the area and other places, including Townsend after devastating winds struck in 2012.
The church is partnered with Gospel Friends in Southern India and many missions in Haiti, striving to help the "least of these."
We would love to have you join in the ongoing story of Church of the Cove!
