Expectations
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12
PromiseKidz seeks to demonstrate the love of Christ in all aspects of your child’s experience while at Church of the Cove. One avenue that we express this love is by making the class environment one that teaches good values and models the life of Christ.
Christ commands His followers to live by the two most important commandments: to love God above all else and to love others as yourself. One question we ask is, what would Jesus do in this situation, or even, what if Jesus were right here sitting with me?
In conjunction with teaching good values, PromiseKidz finds it imperative to ask each child to exhibit love for God and everything He has created by showing respect in the following ways:
(PromiseKidz Children’s Ministry sees RESPECT as esteeming something as very important and valuable to us)
We will show our love for God by showing respect:
I. To God
This is the most important commandment from Christ. We show this by giving God the reverence that is due His name.
II. To Your Teachers
The Bible tells us to honor those who are in authority over us. We can show this by our obedience to the teacher.
III. To Each Other
Christ’s second commandment is to love others the way that we would want to be loved. This involves treating our classmates, church family, and family with proper respect like the way that we would want.
IV. To Our Property
We are to take care of all that God has given us. It is very important to honor our meeting place of worship by taking good care of it.
V. During Our Time Together
We show respect when we arrive on time and take care to go to the bathroom, etc before class begins so as not to be a distraction in worship time.
Showing Love through Discipline
God often shows his love for His children by disciplining them when they are going astray.
There are times when a PromiseKidz teacher will need to demonstrate Christ’s love by disciplining a child that is not behaving in a way that honors God. All PromiseKidz teachers are trained to handle these situations in a similar manner that allows the child the opportunity to make good choices:
The child will first receive a warning about their behavior.
If he/she chooses to not obey again, the teacher will have the child sit apart from the class activities and follow up with a brief discussion on honoring God through their actions before returning them to the activities of the class.
If he/she again chooses not to obey, the teacher will assist the child in rejoining their family in worship service for the remainder of class time. A brief follow-up with the families will be given after the service.
PromiseKidz Children’s Ministry feels that implementing these guidelines is beneficial for the safety, spiritual growth, and fun, enriching experiences during PromiseKidz!
